        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 29, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the month of June 2007 as "Corrections Officers and
     2     Employees Month" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Corrections officers and employees are people of
     4  high moral character and personal integrity who take
     5  professionalism to heart; and
     6     WHEREAS, Corrections officers and employees form the backbone
     7  of our State correctional system by overseeing individuals who
     8  have been arrested, who are awaiting trial or who have been
     9  convicted and sent to prison; and
    10     WHEREAS, Corrections officers and employees work unarmed and
    11  place themselves in danger every day as they patrol the toughest
    12  correctional facilities in this Commonwealth; and
    13     WHEREAS, Corrections officers and employees work rotating
    14  shifts around the clock, including day and night, weekends and

     1  holidays, to maintain the security of the citizens of this
     2  Commonwealth; and
     3     WHEREAS, Corrections officers and employees are charged with
     4  the care, custody and control of our State prisoner population
     5  and, as such, are the first element in the rehabilitation of
     6  incarcerated persons; and
     7     WHEREAS, Corrections officers and employees are actively
     8  involved in their communities through volunteer service and
     9  civic participation; and
    10     WHEREAS, Corrections officers and employees continue to work
    11  effectively with State prison officials to create well-run
    12  correctional facilities, foster teamwork and support an
    13  effective detention system; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
    15  month of June 2007 as "Corrections Officers and Employees Month"
    16  in Pennsylvania in recognition of the valuable contributions of
    17  these fine professionals.
