A RESOLUTION 1 Honoring the life of Commander Philip Murphy-Sweet, who paid the 2 supreme sacrifice on April 7, 2007, when he died from 3 injuries inflicted in Baghdad, Iraq, by an improvised 4 explosive device. 5 WHEREAS, Commander Philip Murphy-Sweet, a United States Naval 6 Supply Officer who was stationed at the Naval Inventory Control 7 Point in Hampden Township, Cumberland County, was on a special 8 six-month assignment to Iraq when he was grievously injured by 9 an improvised explosive device on April 7, 2007; and 10 WHEREAS, Commander Murphy-Sweet, a 19-year veteran of the 11 Navy, died as a result of these tragic injuries, paying the 12 supreme sacrifice while in the service of his country; and
1 WHEREAS, Commander Murphy-Sweet was a source of inspiration 2 and strength to his family and a strong leader to those who knew 3 and worked with him professionally as well as in church and 4 community service projects; and 5 WHEREAS, A native of Idaho, Commander Murphy-Sweet is 6 survived by his wife Cheryl and their three children, Olivia, 7 Seth and Lauren, and by his parents, two sisters and two 8 brothers; and 9 WHEREAS, It is fitting to recognize the exemplary life and 10 accomplishments of this fallen warrior; therefore be it 11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of 12 Commander Philip Murphy-Sweet, who paid the supreme sacrifice on 13 April 7, 2007, when he died from injuries inflicted in Baghdad, 14 Iraq, by an improvised explosive device.
