HOUSE RESOLUTION

No. 268 Session of 2007


        INTRODUCED BY ROHRER, STABACK, CAUSER, CREIGHTON, CUTLER,
           DENLINGER, EVERETT, FAIRCHILD, GEORGE, GOODMAN, HALUSKA,
           HANNA, HESS, MOUL, PHILLIPS, PICKETT, ROAE, SAYLOR, SURRA AND
           VULAKOVICH, MAY 7, 2007

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON GAME AND FISHERIES, MAY 7, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Directing the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to
     2     contract for an independent study of the Pennsylvania Game
     3     Commission's forestry and mineral development policies.

     4     WHEREAS, Each fiscal year the operating budget of the
     5  Pennsylvania Game Commission is composed of at least 16% of
     6  revenues derived from royalty payments from mineral, oil and gas
     7  leases and timber sales; and
     8     WHEREAS, Over the previous five fiscal years the amount of
     9  revenues derived from timber sales has varied from a low of
    10  $7.25 million to a high of $16.4 million; and
    11     WHEREAS, The members of the Game and Fisheries Committee of
    12  the House of Representatives would like to determine if the
    13  Pennsylvania Game Commission is maximizing the revenue potential
    14  from timber sales and mineral, oil and gas leases consistent
    15  with its primary responsibility for the management of the
    16  wildlife of this Commonwealth; therefore be it
    17     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives direct the


     1  Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to contract for an
     2  independent study to determine if the Pennsylvania Game
     3  Commission is maximizing the revenue potential from timber sales
     4  and mineral, oil and gas leases consistent with its primary
     5  responsibility for the management of the wildlife of this
     6  Commonwealth; and be it further
     7     RESOLVED, That this study be completed no later than June 30,
     8  2008.
