        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 1, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing May 7, 2007, as "Patient Advocate Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS,  Access to health care is a basic human need and a
     4  shared societal responsibility; and
     5     WHEREAS, A patient who cannot access medical treatment or
     6  survive the financial hardship of illness is one patient too
     7  many; and
     8     WHEREAS, A patient who receives a serious diagnosis should be
     9  able to have relevant clinical information, empowerment within
    10  the medical care system, timely and sustained medical care and
    11  intervention, an ability to efficiently and effectively make


     1  well-informed and independent decisions and the benefit of
     2  appropriate support which removes barriers to care and
     3  empowerment; and
     4     WHEREAS, The complexity of ensuring health care for all
     5  persons in need challenges society to find and create solutions
     6  to the problem of nonavailability of health care; and
     7     WHEREAS, The continuous, comprehensive, cooperative and
     8  collaborative action of government, private industry, health
     9  care providers and citizens can and must surmount this
    10  challenge; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize May 7,
    12  2007, as "Patient Advocate Day" in Pennsylvania.
