INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 1, 2007
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the month of May 2007 as "Motorcycle Safety and 2 Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, The safety of all Pennsylvania motorists is an issue 4 of enduring consequence; and 5 WHEREAS, Pennsylvanians are encouraged to enjoy the use of 6 motorcycles while practicing utmost safety; and 7 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's economy benefits from more than 8 310,000 registered motorcycles and more than 770,000 licensed 9 motorcycle operators, all whom are required to keep their 10 motorcycles inspected and obey laws relating to operator safety 11 and equipment; and 12 WHEREAS, Along with statistics on ownership and ridership,
1 the Department of Transportation reports that more than 4,000 2 motorcycle accidents occurred in this Commonwealth in 2005, 3 resulting in 205 fatalities; and 4 WHEREAS, Helmets were worn in 106 of those motorcycle 5 fatalities; and 6 WHEREAS, Despite inevitable incidents, motorcycle operators 7 continue to promote highway safety and encourage other motor 8 vehicle operators to recognize and participate in motorcycle 9 safety training; and 10 WHEREAS, Throughout the month of May, the Pennsylvania 11 Motorcycle Safety Program, Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward 12 Education of Pennsylvania (ABATE) and the Pennsylvania 13 Motorcycle Dealers Association (PMDA) are continuing their 14 advocacy of motorcycle safety; therefore be it 15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the 16 month of May 2007 as "Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month" in 17 Pennsylvania.
