        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 24, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating May 1, 2007, as "Loyalty Day" in Pennsylvania.

     2     WHEREAS, The Department of Pennsylvania, Veterans of Foreign
     3  Wars of the United States, is conducting its annual Loyalty Day"
     4  program on the grounds of the State Capitol on May 1, 2007; and
     5     WHEREAS, In 1958 President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into
     6  law Public Law 85-529, which designates May 1 of each year as
     7  "Loyalty Day"; and
     8     WHEREAS, "Loyalty Day" is set aside as a special day for
     9  reaffirming loyalty to the United States and recognizing
    10  American freedom; and
    11     WHEREAS, The President of the United States annually issues a
    12  proclamation calling on officials to proudly display the flag of
    13  the United States on all Government buildings on this special

     1  day; and
     2     WHEREAS, Citizens and elected officials are encouraged to
     3  observe "Loyalty Day" in schools and other appropriate places;
     4  and
     5     WHEREAS, In the post-9/11 world, it is fitting that the
     6  citizens of this Commonwealth pause on "Loyalty Day" to reflect
     7  on the privileges of freedom, democracy and unmatched
     8  opportunity we enjoy in the United States; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 1,
    10  2007, as "Loyalty Day" in Pennsylvania, proudly joining the
    11  Department of Pennsylvania, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the
    12  United States, in its observance and commending the department
    13  for its continued service to our nation and this Commonwealth;
    14  and be it further
    15     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    16  the VFW State Commander on May 1, 2007, at the "Loyalty Day"
    17  program conducted by the Department of Pennsylvania, Veterans of
    18  Foreign Wars of the United States, on the grounds of the State
    19  Capitol.
