        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 18, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing Columbia Lodge No. 1074, Benevolent and Protective
     2     Order of Elks, on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.

     3     WHEREAS, Columbia Lodge No. 1074, Benevolent and Protective
     4  Order of Elks, was instituted on May 22, 1907; and
     5     WHEREAS, Forty-three charter members were initiated, 18 of
     6  whom demitted from the Lancaster Lodge; and
     7     WHEREAS, Charles A. Fleckenstein was installed as the first
     8  exalted ruler and W.M. D'Miller as the first secretary; and
     9     WHEREAS, The charter received from the Grand Lodge, dated
    10  July 17, 1907, and bearing the signatures of all charter
    11  members, hangs in the lodge room of the present lodge; and
    12     WHEREAS, The lodge was an outgrowth of a social organization
    13  known as the Susquehanna Club, headquartered on the second floor

     1  of the property at 240 Locust Street; and
     2     WHEREAS, The lodge, which took over this property and went on
     3  to acquire other sites, has met at its current location, 445
     4  Chestnut Street, since November 1943; and
     5     WHEREAS, The lodge has generously contributed to the Columbia
     6  Hospital, the American Red Cross and other community service
     7  initiatives; and
     8     WHEREAS, Having completed 100 years as a member of the
     9  national organization, Columbia Lodge No. 1074 is looking
    10  forward to the future, resolved to maintain its position of
    11  leadership in the community; therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
    13  Columbia Lodge No. 1074, Benevolent and Protective Order of
    14  Elks, on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
