        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 16, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the month of April 2007 as "Hemophilia Awareness
     2     Month" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Hemophilia is a genetic disorder that impairs the
     4  body's ability to control bleeding; and
     5     WHEREAS, Hemophilia is defined as excessive, uncontrollable
     6  bleeding because of a missing or low-level clotting factor in
     7  the blood; and
     8     WHEREAS, Bleeding may occur even when there is no injury and
     9  most often occurs in the joints and in the head; and
    10     WHEREAS, There are approximately 20,000 United States
    11  citizens with hemophilia, and each year approximately 400 babies
    12  are born with the disorder; and
    13     WHEREAS, There are approximately 1,700 citizens of this

     1  Commonwealth living with hemophilia; and
     2     WHEREAS, Hemophilia affects males almost exclusively and is
     3  found in all populations; and
     4     WHEREAS, There is no cure for hemophilia, a lifelong
     5  condition that must be controlled with intravenous infusion of
     6  factor replacement therapies; therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
     8  month of April 2007 as "Hemophilia Awareness Month" in
     9  Pennsylvania.
