A RESOLUTION 1 Honoring Hersheypark as it celebrates its 100th year of full 2 operation in 2007. 3 WHEREAS, Hersheypark is a living tribute to the world's 4 favorite flavor and the man who made it affordable and available 5 to all Americans; and 6 WHEREAS, Hersheypark has evolved from the "picnic and 7 pleasure grounds" Milton S. Hershey established for the workers 8 of his famous chocolate factory into a world-class theme park; 9 and 10 WHEREAS, Hersheypark had humble beginnings--starting with 11 such attractions as a baseball diamond and band shell--but has
1 become home to more than 60 attractions and more roller coasters 2 than any other park in Pennsylvania; and 3 WHEREAS, In 2007 Hersheypark continues to embrace Mr. 4 Hershey's philosophy that "one is only happy in proportion as he 5 makes others feel happy"; and 6 WHEREAS, Hersheypark is a destination where millions of 7 visitors have made their own "Hersheypark Happy" memories; and 8 WHEREAS, Hersheypark is a driving force in the tourism 9 industry in Pennsylvania, welcoming more than 2.5 million 10 visitors from around the world each year; and 11 WHEREAS, Hersheypark has earned the reputation of being a 12 clean, green, family-friendly amusement park; and 13 WHEREAS, Hersheypark is committed to preserving the 14 environment by recycling used materials, purchasing recycled 15 products and treating and recycling water in the operation of 16 the park's water rides; and 17 WHEREAS, Hersheypark hires 3,300 seasonal employees each 18 year, and many citizens of this Commonwealth are proud alumni of 19 its employment programs; and 20 WHEREAS, Hersheypark is dedicated to the pursuit of safety by 21 employing more than 55 certified ride inspectors, more than any 22 other park in this Commonwealth; and 23 WHEREAS, Hersheypark employees pride themselves on providing 24 exemplary service as their way of paying tribute to Mr. 25 Hershey's legacy; and 26 WHEREAS, Hersheypark earned the coveted Applause Award, the 27 highest honor bestowed by the amusement park industry, from the 28 International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions in 29 2000; and 30 WHEREAS, Hersheypark plays a vital role in the community by 20070H0161R1010 - 2 -
1 reinvesting a portion of its profits to support the students of 2 the Milton Hershey School, Mr. Hershey's greatest and most 3 enduring legacy; and 4 WHEREAS, Hersheypark is making the largest financial 5 investment in its history by opening The Boardwalk at 6 Hersheypark, which serves as both a tribute to its past and a 7 commitment to its future as a modern-day "pleasure grounds" for 8 the community and the world; therefore be it 9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Hersheypark 10 as it celebrates its 100th year of full operation in 2007.
