                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Urging the Congress of the United States to provide timely and
     2     meaningful reauthorization of the State Children's Health
     3     Insurance Program in 2007.

     4     WHEREAS, Health insurance coverage is essential to providing
     5  access to appropriate and necessary health care for children;
     6  and
     7     WHEREAS, Providing health care coverage to children improves
     8  the health outcomes of children; and
     9     WHEREAS, More than 152,000 children in the Commonwealth of
    10  Pennsylvania are enrolled in the Children's Health Insurance
    11  Program (CHIP); and
    12     WHEREAS, The Federal State Children's Health Insurance
    13  Program (SCHIP) law was modeled after Pennsylvania's CHIP; and
    14     WHEREAS, SCHIP is scheduled for reauthorization by Congress
    15  in 2007; and
    16     WHEREAS, The success of CHIP in the Commonwealth of

     1  Pennsylvania depends on a successful Federal-State partnership;
     2  and
     3     WHEREAS, About 68¢ of every dollar spent on CHIP in the
     4  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania comes from the Federal Government;
     5  therefore be it
     6     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
     7  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania urge the Congress to provide timely
     8  and meaningful reauthorization of SCHIP in 2007 to provide
     9  states the resources to continue administering successful CHIP
    10  programs; and be it further
    11     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
    12  the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each
    13  member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
