        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           FEBRUARY 12, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the Rev. William H. Gray III on his retirement after 35
     2     years of service as pastor of the Bright Hope Baptist Church
     3     in the City of Philadelphia and for his achievements as a
     4     member of the United States House of Representatives.

     5     WHEREAS, The Rev. William H. Gray III has served as pastor of
     6  the Bright Hope Baptist Church in Philadelphia since 1972; and
     7     WHEREAS, Rev. Gray served in the House of Representatives of
     8  the Congress of the United States from 1979 through 1991; and
     9     WHEREAS, During his tenure in the Congress, Rev. Gray was
    10  elected the first African-American chairman of the Budget
    11  Committee and became chairman of the Democratic caucus and
    12  majority whip; and
    13     WHEREAS, Rev. Gray served as president of the United Negro
    14  College Fund; and
    15     WHEREAS, Rev. Gray gave his farewell sermon at the Bright
    16  Hope Baptist Church on February 4, 2007; therefore be it

     1     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the Rev.
     2  William H. Gray III on his retirement after 35 years of service
     3  as pastor of the Bright Hope Baptist Church in the City of
     4  Philadelphia and for his achievements as a member of the United
     5  States House of Representatives.
