        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JANUARY 29, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing February 6, 2007, as "Ronald Reagan Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble
     4  background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and
     5  advancing the public good, having been employed as an
     6  entertainer, union leader, corporate spokesman, Governor of
     7  California and President of the United States; and
     8     WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction for
     9  two terms as the 40th President of the United States; and
    10     WHEREAS, President Reagan earned the confidence of three-
    11  fifths of the electorate in his 1984 reelection and was
    12  victorious in 49 of the 50 states, a record unsurpassed in the

     1  history of American presidential elections; and
     2     WHEREAS, At his first inaugural in 1981, Ronald Reagan
     3  inherited a disillusioned nation shackled by rampant inflation
     4  and high unemployment; and
     5     WHEREAS, President Reagan worked in a bipartisan manner to
     6  enact his bold agenda of restoring accountability and common
     7  sense to government, leading to an unprecedented economic
     8  expansion and opportunity for millions of Americans; and
     9     WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to an active social
    10  policy agenda for the nation's children helped lower crime and
    11  drug use in our neighborhoods; and
    12     WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our armed forces
    13  contributed to the restoration of pride in America, her values
    14  and those cherished by the free world and prepared the United
    15  States Armed Forces to meet the challenges of the 21st century;
    16  and
    17     WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace through
    18  strength" led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise
    19  of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for
    20  millions of people; and
    21     WHEREAS, February 6, 2007, is the 96th anniversary of Ronald
    22  Reagan's birth and the third birthday anniversary since his
    23  passing; therefore be it
    24     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
    25  February 6, 2007, as "Ronald Reagan Day" in Pennsylvania.
