AN ACT 1 Amending the act of December 14, 1982 (P.L.1227, No.281), 2 entitled "An act regulating the practice of architecture in 3 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; providing for the 4 examination and licensure of architects by a State Architects 5 Licensure Board; and providing penalties," further providing 6 for issuance and renewal of certificates. 7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 hereby enacts as follows: 9 Section 1. Section 10 of the act of December 14, 1982 10 (P.L.1227, No.281), known as the Architects Licensure Law, is 11 amended by adding a subsection to read: 12 Section 10. Issuance and renewal of certificates. 13 * * * 14 (a.1) As a condition for the biennial renewal of a 15 certificate to practice architecture, an architect must provide 16 certification of successful completion of a minimum of 24 hours 17 of continuing education during the immediately preceding two 18 years. A minimum of 12 hours of the continuing education shall 19 be in the areas of health, safety and welfare of the general
1 public. A resident of another jurisdiction who is licensed to 2 engage in the practice of architecture in the jurisdiction in 3 which the architect's primary office is located shall be deemed 4 to have satisfied the board's continuing education requirement 5 if the architect certified on the board's biennial renewal 6 application that the architect has satisfied the requirement of 7 the architect's jurisdiction of residency and primary office. 8 Certification of credit hours submitted by the architect shall 9 be properly signed as being correct and true. An individual 10 applying for initial licensure shall be exempt from the 11 continuing education requirement during the biennial licensure 12 prior in which the individual obtained initial licensure. The 13 board may waive all or part of the continuing education 14 requirement for an architect who shows evidence, to the board's 15 satisfaction, that the architect was unable to complete the 16 requirement due to illness, emergency or hardship. 17 * * * 18 Section 2. The board shall promulgate regulations to carry 19 out the provisions of the addition of section 10(a.1) of the 20 act. Publication of the final-form regulations under this 21 section shall take place within 18 months of the effective date 22 of this section. 23 Section 3. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
