AN ACT
1 Amending Title 71 (State Government) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, further defining "correction officer."
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. The definition of "correction officer" in section
6 5102 of Title 71 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes is
7 amended to read:
8 § 5102. Definitions.
9 The following words and phrases as used in this part, unless
10 a different meaning is plainly required by the context, shall
11 have the following meanings:

13 "Correction officer." Any full-time employee assigned to the
14 Department of Corrections or the Department of Public Welfare
15 whose principal duty is the care, custody and control of inmates
16 or direct therapeutic treatment, care, custody and control of
1 inmates of a penal or correctional institution, community
2 treatment center, forensic unit in a State hospital or secure
3 unit of a youth development center operated by the Department of
4 Corrections or by the Department of Public Welfare and any full-
5 time employee of the Department of Corrections who is deemed an
6 essential employee by the Department of Corrections.
