                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 37 (Historical and Museums) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, further providing for documents.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5     Section 1.  Section 305 of Title 37 of the Pennsylvania
     6  Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding paragraphs to read:
     7  § 305.  Documents.
     8     The commission shall have the power and duty to:
     9         * * *
    10         (7)  Birth and death records provided to public.--
    11     Notwithstanding any other laws to the contrary, all
    12     electronic records pertaining to births and deaths filed 100
    13     years prior to the current year shall be made available to
    14     the public. Such records shall be accessible to the public
    15     through the Pennsylvania Genealogical Research System
    16     established in paragraph (8).


     1         (8)  Establishment of Pennsylvania Genealogical Research
     2     System.--The system shall meet the following requirements:
     3             (i)  Consist of an electronic registration and access
     4         system to be constructed and maintained by the
     5         Pennsylvania State Archives.
     6             (ii)  Contain records management controls to assure
     7         the privacy, authenticity and integrity of the
     8         information the original records contain.
     9             (iii)  Include provisions for redaction of sensitive
    10         personal information as deemed necessary, including
    11         Social Security numbers.
    12     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
