AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, further providing for visual signs on authorized
3 vehicles.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 4572(a) introductory paragraph, (1) and
7 (5) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes are
8 amended to read:
9 § 4572. Visual signals on authorized vehicles.
10 (a) Flashing or revolving blue lights.--Ambulance personnel,
11 volunteer firefighters, certified volunteer search and rescue
12 organization members, local emergency coordinators and owners
13 and handlers of dogs used in tracking humans may each equip one
14 motor vehicle with no more than two flashing or revolving blue
15 lights.
16 (1) In order to be eligible to display lights on their
17 vehicles under this subsection, the names of the ambulance
1 personnel, volunteer firefighters and certified volunteer 2 search and rescue organization members shall be submitted to 3 the nearest station of the Pennsylvania State Police on a 4 list signed by the chief of the ambulance or fire department 5 or company[,] or the head of the search and rescue 6 organization[, and each]. Each local emergency coordinator 7 and each dog owner and handler shall register at the nearest 8 Pennsylvania State Police station. 9 * * * 10 (5) The lights shall be removed from the vehicle 11 immediately [upon receipt of notice from the chief of the 12 ambulance or fire department or company or the head of the 13 search and rescue organization to remove the lights upon 14 termination of the person's status as an active volunteer 15 firefighter or ambulance person or upon termination of the 16 person's active status as a certified volunteer search and 17 rescue organization member or dog owner or handler, or when 18 the vehicle is no longer used in connection with the person's 19 duties as a volunteer firefighter or ambulance person, 20 certified volunteer search and rescue organization member or 21 dog owner or handler.]: 22 (i) when the individual is no longer serving as 23 active ambulance person, volunteer firefighter, certified 24 volunteer search and rescue organization member, local 25 emergency coordinator or dog owner or handler; 26 (ii) when the vehicle is no longer used in 27 connection with the person's duties as ambulance person, 28 volunteer firefighter, certified volunteer search and 29 rescue organization member, local emergency coordinator 30 or dog owner or handler; or 20070H1598B2039 - 2 -
1 (iii) upon the individual's receipt of written 2 notice from: 3 (A) the chief of the ambulance company of 4 termination of the person's status as active 5 ambulance personnel; 6 (B) the chief of the fire department of the 7 termination of the person's status as an active 8 volunteer firefighter; 9 (C) the head of the search and rescue 10 organization of the termination of the person's 11 status as an active certified volunteer search and 12 rescue organization member; 13 (D) the appropriate governing body of the 14 termination of the person's status as an active local 15 emergency coordinator; or 16 (E) the appropriate governing unit of the 17 termination of the person's active status as a dog 18 owner or handler. 19 Section 2.
