AN ACT
1 Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
2 Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, further providing for
3 confidential communications to clergymen.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 5943 of Title 42 of the Pennsylvania
7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
8 § 5943. Confidential communications to clergymen.
9 No clergyman, priest, rabbi, Christian Science practitioner
10 or minister of the gospel of any regularly established church or
11 religious organization, except clergymen or ministers[,] who are
12 self-ordained or who are members of religious organizations in
13 which members other than the leader thereof are deemed clergymen
14 or ministers, who while in the course of his duties has acquired
15 information from any person secretly and in confidence shall be
16 compelled, or allowed without consent of such person, to
17 disclose that information in any legal proceeding, trial or
18 investigation before any government unit.
1 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
