        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON VETERANS AFFAIRS AND EMERGENCY
           PREPAREDNESS, APRIL 5, 2007

                                     AN ACT

     1  Designating September 11 of each year as "Pennsylvania Emergency
     2     Responders' Day."

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5  Section 1.  September 11 designation.
     6     September 11 of each year shall be known as "Pennsylvania
     7  Emergency Responders' Day."
     8  Section 2.  Purpose.
     9     This day shall be set apart as a day of gratitude to and
    10  profound respect for all past and present firefighters, public
    11  safety providers, ambulance drivers, emergency medical
    12  technicians, emergency dispatchers, first response teams, police
    13  officers and all who serve in this Commonwealth as emergency and

     1  disaster responders. This day shall affirm that these heroes
     2  help our citizens every day in extraordinary ways.
     3  Section 3.  Observance of day.
     4     This day shall be observed by citizens and political
     5  subdivisions by:
     6         (1)  Devoting some part of the day to the recognition of
     7     all local public safety personnel.
     8         (2)  Making an effort to emphasize the duty of citizens
     9     to cooperate with and acknowledge the efforts of public
    10     safety personnel.
    11         (3)  Observing a moment of silence in recognition of the
    12     events of September 11, 2001, for those who lost their lives
    13     that day and for all who have lost their lives in the
    14     selfless effort of making Pennsylvania safer for all.
    15  Section 4.  Effective date.
    16     This act shall take effect in 60 days.
