        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION, MARCH 22, 2007

                                     AN ACT

     1  Designating a portion of State Route 74 in Perry County as the
     2     Marine Lance Corporal Jason L. Frye Memorial Highway.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5  Section 1.  Marine Lance Corporal Jason L. Frye Memorial
     6                 Highway.
     7     (a)  Declaration of policy.--The General Assembly finds and
     8  declares as follows:
     9         (1)  Jason L. Frye was born February 1, 1986. He
    10     graduated from West Perry High School and in September 2004
    11     enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He studied
    12     carpentry at the county vocational technical school and was


     1     an avid outdoorsman. He was a devout Lutheran and a member of
     2     Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in his hometown of Landisburg, Perry
     3     County.
     4         (2)  Frye entered the United States Marine Corps under
     5     the Delayed Enlistment Program in December of 2003. He was
     6     deployed to Iraq in July 2005 following basic training.
     7         (3)  Frye, a Private First Class on enlistment, was
     8     promoted to Lance Corporal at the completion of his infantry
     9     training.
    10         (4)  Lance Corporal Frye, age 19, served with distinction
    11     in the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, G Company, Weapons Platoon
    12     until his death on October 6, 2005, in Fallujah, Iraq. He was
    13     killed while on patrol with his unit by an improvised
    14     explosive device (IED).
    15     (b)  Designation.--State Route 74 in Spring Township, Perry
    16  County, from the intersection with State Route 274 southward to
    17  the Cumberland County line is hereby designated as the Marine
    18  Lance Corporal Jason L. Frye Memorial Highway.
    19     (c)  Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
    20  maintain appropriate signs to indicate the designation under
    21  subsection (b).
    22  Section 2.  Effective date.
    23     This act shall take effect in 60 days.
