                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 40 (Insurance) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, providing for occupational therapy services.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5     Section 1.  The definitions of "health service doctor" and
     6  "professional health services" in section 6302(a) of Title 40 of
     7  the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes are amended and the
     8  subsection is amended by adding a definition to read:
     9  § 6302.  Definitions.
    10     (a)  General rule.--The following words and phrases when used
    11  in this chapter shall have, unless the context clearly indicates
    12  otherwise, the meanings given to them in this section:

    14     "Health service doctor."  A doctor of dental surgery, doctor
    15  of medicine, doctor of optometry, doctor of osteopathy, doctor
    16  of podiatry, doctor of chiropractic, licensed physical


     1  therapist, licensed occupational therapist, certified registered
     2  nurse anesthetist, certified registered nurse practitioner,
     3  certified enterostomal therapy nurse, certified community health
     4  nurse, certified psychiatric mental health nurse, certified
     5  clinical nurse specialist, licensed psychologist, licensed
     6  speech-language pathologist, licensed audiologist or licensed
     7  teacher of persons who are hearing impaired.

     9     "Occupational therapy services."  The general and usual
    10  services rendered and care administered by licensed occupational
    11  therapists, as defined as "occupational therapy" in the act of
    12  June 15, 1982 (P.L.502, No.140), known as the Occupational
    13  Therapy Practice Act.

    15     "Professional health services."  Dental services, medical
    16  services, optometric services, osteopathic services, podiatry
    17  services, chiropractic services, physical therapy services,
    18  occupational therapy services, psychological services, speech-
    19  language pathology services, audiology services, services of
    20  teachers of persons who are hearing impaired, certified
    21  registered nurse services provided by a certified registered
    22  nurse at any time except when the certified registered nurse is
    23  acting as an employee of a health care facility or of an
    24  anesthesiology group or any one or more of them, provided any of
    25  the above-listed services are medically necessary.

    27     Section 2.  Section 6322(f) of Title 40 is amended to read:
    28  § 6322.  Scope of service.

    30     (f)  Legislative amendment of stated purposes of existing

     1  corporations.--The stated purposes of all existing general
     2  medical service corporations are hereby amended so as to include
     3  the furnishing of osteopathic, dental, optometric, podiatry,
     4  chiropractic, physical therapy, occupational therapy,
     5  psychological, speech-language pathology and audiology services
     6  and the services of teachers of persons who are hearing impaired
     7  through doctors of osteopathy, dentistry, optometry, podiatry
     8  and chiropractic and through licensed physical therapists,
     9  licensed occupational therapists, psychologists, speech-language
    10  pathologists, audiologists and teachers of persons who are
    11  hearing impaired, respectively.
    12     Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
