                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of October 5, 1978 (P.L.1109, No.261), entitled
     2     "An act requiring the licensing of practitioners of
     3     osteopathic medicine and surgery; regulating their practice;
     4     providing for certain funds and penalties for violations and
     5     repeals," providing for waiver of biennial registration fee.

     6     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     7  hereby enacts as follows:
     8     Section 1.  Section 10(e) of the act of October 5, 1978
     9  (P.L.1109, No.261), known as the Osteopathic Medical Practice
    10  Act, amended December 20, 1985 (P.L.398, No.108), is amended and
    11  the section is amended by adding a subsection to read:
    12  Section 10.  Licenses; exemptions; nonresident practitioners;
    13                 graduate students; biennial registration and
    14                 continuing medical education.

    16     (e)  [A person] Subject to subsection (e.1), an individual
    17  registering with the board shall pay, for each biennial
    18  registration, a fee. It shall accompany the application for


     1  registration. Upon receiving a proper application for
     2  registration accompanied by the fee and evidence satisfactory to
     3  the board of compliance with the continuing medical education
     4  requirements of subsection (d), the board shall issue its
     5  certificate of registration to the applicant. It and its
     6  renewals shall be good and sufficient evidence of registration.
     7     (e.1)  The board may waive the fee for biennial registration
     8  in cases where an individual presents evidence that payment of
     9  the fee will cause undue economic hardship. The request for
    10  waiver shall be made in writing. The board shall respond to the
    11  request for waiver via registered mail and shall set forth its
    12  reasons for acceptance or denial of the request.

    14     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
