SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 386 Session of 2006

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, NOVEMBER 21, 2006

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Extending condolences upon the death of Robert E. Hoke and
     2     remembering his more than three decades of public service as
     3     the Reading Clerk of the Senate of Pennsylvania.

     4     WHEREAS, Robert E. Hoke, of Millersburg, Dauphin County,
     5  passed away on October 19, 2006, at the age of 88; and
     6     WHEREAS, Mr. Hoke, a graduate of Bucknell University and a
     7  Navy veteran of World War II, was Reading Clerk of the Senate of
     8  Pennsylvania for more than 30 years; and
     9     WHEREAS, Mr. Hoke is remembered by his friends and former
    10  colleagues in the Senate as a person who always respected the
    11  serious nature of his job and was very conscientious and
    12  affable; and
    13     WHEREAS, Whether reading bills and amendments into the Senate
    14  proceedings or calling the roll for votes and making the
    15  necessary announcements, Mr. Hoke kept the attention of all
    16  Senators and staff with his strong, clear voice with its hint of
    17  Pennsylvania Dutch; and
    18     WHEREAS, Always respectful in demeanor, Mr. Hoke was a


     1  constant in Senate proceedings throughout the more than 30 years
     2  he served as Reading Clerk, making a memorable contribution to
     3  the legislative history of this Commonwealth; and
     4     WHEREAS, Mr. Hoke was a community leader, active certified
     5  public accountant, coach, post and Dauphin County Commander of
     6  the American Legion, and a member of the Harrisburg Consistory;
     7  and
     8     WHEREAS, He is survived by four daughters, Suzanne, Margaret,
     9  Debra and Melissa, four grandchildren and six great-
    10  grandchildren; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the Senate extend condolences upon the death
    12  of Robert E. Hoke and remember with appreciation his more than
    13  three decades of public service as Reading Clerk of the Senate;
    14  and be it further
    15     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    16  his family in care of Suzanne Wingard, 312 Market Street,
    17  Millersburg, PA 17061.
