AN ACT
1 Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
2 act relating to the public school system, including certain
3 provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
4 schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
5 laws relating thereto," further providing for school nurse
6 services.
7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
8 hereby enacts as follows:
9 Section 1. Section 1402(a.1) of the act of March 10, 1949
10 (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949,
11 amended December 3, 1965 (P.L.1041, No.390), is amended to read:
12 Section 1402. Health Services.--* * *
13 (a.1) Every child of school age shall be provided with
14 school nurse services: Provided, however, That the number of
15 pupils under the care of each school nurse shall not exceed one
16 thousand five hundred (1,500). A school district may satisfy the
17 requirements of this paragraph by contracting with, or otherwise
18 employing, registered nurses who have obtained a B.S.N. degree,
19 certified registered nurse practitioners, and physician
1 assistants, so long as at least fifty per centum (50%) of
2 persons so employed by the district are properly certificated by
3 the Secretary of Education as a school nurse.
