AN ACT 1 Designating a portion of State Route 322 in Delaware County as 2 the Senator Clarence D. Bell Memorial Highway. 3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 4 hereby enacts as follows: 5 Section 1. Senator Clarence D. Bell Memorial Highway. 6 (a) Findings.--The General Assembly hereby finds and 7 declares as follows: 8 (1) Senator Clarence D. Bell (1914-2002) served as a 9 member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly longer than any 10 other person in Pennsylvania history. First elected to the 11 House of Representatives in 1954, he then served as State 12 Senator for the 9th district from 1960 until his death in 13 2002. 14 (2) Along with his many years of service to this 15 Commonwealth, Senator Bell served in the United States
1 military during World War II, where he received the United 2 States Army Legion of Merit and the Pennsylvania 3 Distinguished Service Medal. After the war, he served and 4 attained the rank of Major General in the Pennsylvania 5 National Guard. 6 (3) Senator Bell should be remembered for his 7 distinguished achievements as well as for his devoted service 8 to the residents of Delaware and Chester counties, to our 9 Commonwealth and to our country. 10 (b) Designation authorized.--The section of State Route 322 11 beginning at its intersection with U.S. Route 1 and ending at 12 its intersection with Interstate 95 in Concord, Bethel and Upper 13 Chichester townships in Delaware County shall be designated and 14 hereafter known as the Senator Clarence D. Bell Memorial 15 Highway. 16 (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall, upon 17 completion of the project, erect appropriate signs at each end 18 of the above-mentioned portion of highway displaying the 19 designation made by this section. 20 Section 2.
