        REFERRED TO STATE GOVERNMENT, FEBRUARY 11, 2005

                                     AN ACT

     1  Selecting, designating and adopting the chocolate chip cookie as
     2     the official cookie of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The chocolate chip cookie is the most popular type
     4  of cookie in America; and
     5     WHEREAS, The chocolate chip cookie has been the most popular
     6  cookie of the children and adults of this Commonwealth for
     7  generations; and
     8     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania leads the nation in the production of
     9  processed chocolate and cocoa; and
    10     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has more licensed bakeries than any
    11  other state in the nation; and
    12     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is a leading producer of the nation's
    13  snack foods; and
    14     WHEREAS, Snack food production is a key element of the
    15  Commonwealth's number one industry, agriculture; and
    16     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the nation's fourth largest producer
    17  of milk, which is the perfect partner to the chocolate chip


     1  cookie; and
     2     WHEREAS, Naming an official cookie of the Commonwealth would
     3  recognize the steadfast and loyal devotion of the citizens of
     4  Pennsylvania to the chocolate chip cookie; therefore
     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  The chocolate chip cookie is hereby selected,
     8  designated and adopted as the official cookie of the
     9  Commonwealth.
    10     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
