                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the month of October 2006 as "Automotive Career
     2     Month" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The retail automotive industry has long been one of
     4  the largest employers in our communities; and
     5     WHEREAS, Advances in automotive technology and increased
     6  reliance on information technology have opened additional job
     7  opportunities; and
     8     WHEREAS, In a time of economic uncertainty in many other
     9  industries, rewarding and cutting-edge positions in automobile
    10  dealerships are available now in all areas of operations,
    11  including sales, repair, service, finance, marketing,


     1  administration, design, Internet service and communications; and
     2     WHEREAS, The retail automotive business is the largest retail
     3  industry in the United States, already employing more than 1.1
     4  million people; and
     5     WHEREAS, In Pennsylvania, more than 54,000 individuals are
     6  employed by new vehicle dealers alone; and
     7     WHEREAS, With employment vacancies existing in the retail
     8  automotive industry, it is important to encourage people to
     9  explore employment opportunities at vehicle dealerships;
    10  therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
    12  month of October 2006 as "Automotive Career Month" in
    13  Pennsylvania.
