        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           FEBRUARY 2, 2006

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of February 18 through 25, 2006, as "FFA
     2     Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Future Farmers of America, now The National FFA
     4  Organization (FFA), has grown from its agricultural beginnings
     5  into a broad-spectrum leadership incubator; and
     6     WHEREAS, The FFA creed expresses belief in the future of
     7  agriculture: "with a faith born not of words but of deeds"; and
     8     WHEREAS, In accordance with the FFA motto, members serve
     9  their chapter, community and country by cultivating friendships


     1  and planting new ideas and seeds of hope wherever they go:
     2  "learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to
     3  serve"; and
     4     WHEREAS, FFA in the 21st century welcomes young women and
     5  young men with diverse backgrounds, and FFA membership has
     6  reached a 22-year record high; and
     7     WHEREAS, Nearly 500,000 FFA members from 50 states, Puerto
     8  Rico and the Virgin Islands are learning to be successful
     9  leaders in production agriculture, agribusiness, agriscience and
    10  other fields; and
    11     WHEREAS, Many FFA members live far from working farms but
    12  have an interest in related fields like food science, turf
    13  management and horticulture; and
    14     WHEREAS, FFA members who live in rural areas now represent
    15  27% of the national organization; and
    16     WHEREAS, Females comprise 37% of total membership and nearly
    17  50% of all FFA officer teams; and
    18     WHEREAS, Young people across this Commonwealth continue to
    19  wear the traditional blue corduroy jacket which distinguishes
    20  FFA members; and
    21     WHEREAS, State President Candace Moore of Philadelphia
    22  represents today's diverse FFA; therefore be it
    23     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
    24  week of February 18 through 25, 2006, as "FFA Week" in
    25  Pennsylvania and congratulate the members, advisers and parents
    26  involved with this exemplary youth organization.
