        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           DECEMBER 13, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Congratulating The Pennsylvania State University, Head Coach Joe
     2     Paterno and the Nittany Lions football team on a great season
     3     and wishing them good luck in the FedEx Orange Bowl against
     4     the Florida State Seminoles on January 3, 2006, in Miami,
     5     Florida.

     6     WHEREAS, Big Ten champions Penn State ended the 2005 regular
     7  season 10-1; and
     8     WHEREAS, Penn State's Big Ten championship title is its first
     9  since 1994; and
    10     WHEREAS, Penn State's Orange Bowl selection is its first
    11  since 1986; and
    12     WHEREAS, Penn State has a 3-1 Orange Bowl record; and
    13     WHEREAS, The Nittany Lions are ranked third in the Bowl
    14  Championship Series rankings and in the Associated Press Top 25
    15  Poll; and


     1     WHEREAS, Senior quarterback Michael Robinson was named the
     2  Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year; and
     3     WHEREAS, Senior defensive end Tamba Hali was named the Big
     4  Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year; and
     5     WHEREAS, Senior cornerback Alan Zemaitis, a three-time All-
     6  Big Ten pick, leads the Big Ten conference with five
     7  interceptions; and
     8     WHEREAS, Coach Paterno, in his 40th season as head coach and
     9  56th season on the Penn State coaching staff, has been named the
    10  American Football Coaches Association Region 3 Coach of the Year
    11  for a record 11th time; and
    12     WHEREAS, Penn State has compiled 23 bowl wins and is playing
    13  in its 32nd bowl game under Coach Paterno; and
    14     WHEREAS, The 72nd Orange Bowl is bringing together coaching
    15  icons Joe Paterno (353 wins) and Bobby Bowden (359 wins);
    16  therefore be it
    17     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate The
    18  Pennsylvania State University, Head Coach Joe Paterno and the
    19  Nittany Lions football team on a great season and wish them good
    20  luck in the FedEx Orange Bowl against the Florida State
    21  Seminoles on January 3, 2006, in Miami, Florida.
