        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 31, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the life and service of Altoona Fire Captain Robert G.
     2     Gallardy and extending condolences for his death on October
     3     25, 2005, from injuries received in the line of duty on
     4     October 23, 2005.

     5     WHEREAS, Robert G. Gallardy was born in Johnstown and grew up
     6  in the Altoona area, becoming captain on Engine 311 of the
     7  Altoona Fire Department and an adjunct instructor with the
     8  Pennsylvania State Fire Academy; and
     9     WHEREAS, Captain Gallardy was also an instructor at Bucks
    10  County Community College; enjoyed working and teaching in the
    11  fire department and instructing fire service training; and was a
    12  member of International Association of Firefighters Local 299,
    13  Summerhill Volunteer Fire Company Station 86, Cambria County
    14  Volunteer Fire Association and the Central District Volunteer
    15  Firemen's Association; and
    16     WHEREAS, On October 23, 2005, Captain Gallardy was training
    17  fire-safety instructors at the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy
    18  in Lewistown when he was tragically and critically injured; and


     1     WHEREAS, Captain Gallardy was airlifted to Lehigh Valley
     2  Hospital Burn Center, where he died on October 25, 2005, from
     3  his injuries; and
     4     WHEREAS, Captain Gallardy, age 47, beloved husband of Vickie
     5  and father of Kyle, Drew and Derek Gallardy, and beloved son of
     6  Margaret and the late Thomas Gallardy, was courageously engaged
     7  in firefighting training at the time his life-ending injuries
     8  were incurred; and
     9     WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the tragic loss of this
    10  talented and generous man and his indomitable courage, good
    11  humor, enduring spirit, capacity to love and exemplary record of
    12  service; therefore be it
    13     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life
    14  and service and extend condolences upon the death of Altoona
    15  Fire Captain Robert G. Gallardy who died on October 25, 2005, in
    16  Lewistown while in the line of duty; and be it further
    17     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    18  Mrs. Robert G. Gallardy, 420 E. Cherry St., Altoona,
    19  Pennsylvania, 16601.
