        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 9, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire on its 25th
     2     season.

     3     WHEREAS, In 1981 the first Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire was
     4  held at the Mount Hope Estate and Winery in Lancaster County to
     5  entertain, delight and amuse throngs of Pennsylvanians; and
     6     WHEREAS, Mount Hope Mansion was originally owned by Peter
     7  Grubb, a wealthy Colonial ironmaster who supplied cannonballs to
     8  George Washington's troops; and
     9     WHEREAS, Mount Hope Estate and Winery wished to invite their
    10  fellow Pennsylvanians to enjoy the estate by replicating an
    11  Elizabethan village on the grounds, complete with Globe Theater
    12  and joust arena; and


     1     WHEREAS, Since its inception, more than 4 million people have
     2  come to relive a time of royalty in Elizabethan England at the
     3  Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, which has aided the development
     4  of tourism in this Commonwealth; and
     5     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire has become a
     6  learning classroom for more than 500,000 elementary and
     7  secondary students in the past two decades; and
     8     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is celebrating
     9  its 25th anniversary season at the Mount Hope Estate and Winery;
    10  therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
    12  Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire on the anniversary of its 25th
    13  season for the mirth and merriment it has brought to the
    14  residents and tourists of this Commonwealth.
