        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 13, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Commending cooperative fish nurseries for their dedication to
     2     the public waters of this Commonwealth.

     3     WHEREAS, Last year there were 153 nursery sponsors and 174
     4  cooperative fish nurseries in 52 counties of this Commonwealth;
     5  and
     6     WHEREAS, The earliest records showing the presence of
     7  cooperative nurseries in this Commonwealth date to 1934; and
     8     WHEREAS, Many of the nurseries have been operating for more
     9  than 25 years, including eight which have been in existence for
    10  more than 50 years; and
    11     WHEREAS, Nurseries do all construction, feeding, care and
    12  stocking on their own time and expense; and
    13     WHEREAS, During the 2004-2005 fiscal year, nursery sponsors

     1  released 1,015,117 catchable trout and 92,175 steelhead trout
     2  into Commonwealth waters open to the general public for fishing;
     3  and
     4     WHEREAS, Nursery sponsors spent $338,000, including $272,000
     5  on fish feed alone; and
     6     WHEREAS, A total of 179,000 hours were expended in the
     7  operation of nurseries; and
     8     WHEREAS, Nursery sites comply with biannual facility
     9  inspections and regulations, including water quality, size and
    10  weight of fish, feed types and cleanliness; and
    11     WHEREAS, Many nurseries conduct special fishing events for
    12  children, elderly persons and persons with disabilities;
    13  therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend
    15  cooperative fish nurseries for their dedication to the public
    16  waters of this Commonwealth.
