INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, APRIL 6, 2005
A RESOLUTION 1 Remembering, in this 100th anniversary year of our Pennsylvania 2 State Police, those members of the force who paid the supreme 3 sacrifice while in the service of our armed forces during 4 World War I and World War II. 5 WHEREAS, Like many other loyal and patriotic institutions, 6 the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) put forth every effort 7 during the war years to win World War I and World War II; and 8 WHEREAS, The PSP made thousands of investigations for Army 9 and Navy intelligence services and for the Federal Bureau of 10 Investigation (FBI) at those times; and 11 WHEREAS, These investigations did not impede the usual fine 12 work of the PSP to protect persons and property in this
1 Commonwealth; and 2 WHEREAS, This superlative effort during the war years was 3 accomplished in spite of the fact that the State troopers' ranks 4 were depleted by the 379 men who were given leaves of absence 5 from the PSP to serve in the armed forces of the United States; 6 and 7 WHEREAS, One State trooper paid the supreme sacrifice during 8 World War I, namely, Joseph A. Snyder, who was killed in action 9 in France on October 16, 1918; and 10 WHEREAS, Ten State troopers paid the supreme sacrifice during 11 World War II, namely: 12 Frank L. Albert, killed in action March 18, 1944, in a 13 bombing run over Germany, 14 Joseph P. Conway, killed in action August 8, 1944, 15 William F. Golden, killed in action September 24, 1944, 16 in a bombing run over Germany, 17 Joseph J. Haggarty, killed in action May 14, 1945, in 18 Okinawa, 19 John E. Hancock, killed February 23, 1943, in a training 20 flight, 21 Frank J. Kelly, killed in action October 2, 1944, in 22 France, 23 Valette Lieb, killed in action May 11, 1944, 24 James A. Rose, killed January 4, 1945, in a training 25 flight, 26 Anthony J. Tornetta, killed in action March 24, 1945, in 27 Germany, 28 Richard E. Whitman, killed in action December 26, 1943, 29 in a bombing run over the South Pacific; 30 therefore be it 20050H0220R1494 - 2 -
1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives remember, in this 2 100th anniversary year of the founding of our Pennsylvania State 3 Police, those members of the force who paid the supreme 4 sacrifice while in the service of the armed forces of the United 5 States during World War I and World War II.
