AN ACT
1 Amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, further providing for cruelty to
3 animals.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 5511(q) of Title 18 of the Pennsylvania
7 Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a definition and the
8 section is amended by adding a subsection to read:
9 § 5511. Cruelty to animals.

11 (k.1) Live pigeon shoots prohibited.--A person commits a
12 misdemeanor of the third degree if that person:
13 (1) Knowingly imports, receives, transports, delivers,
14 sells or offers for sale, purchases, breeds, captures or
15 confines a pigeon for use at a live pigeon shoot.
16 (2) Knowingly owns, operates, organizes, conducts, aids
1 or abets the actual operation, organization or conduct of any
2 live pigeon shoot.
3 (3) Knowingly permits any place under his control or
4 possession to be kept or used for a live pigeon shoot.
5 (4) Attends a live pigeon shoot, either as a spectator
6 or participant.

8 (q) Definitions.--As used in this section, the following
9 words and phrases shall have the meanings given to them in this
10 subsection:

12 "Live pigeon shoot." An event involving the release of birds
13 from the family Columbidae as targets for the purpose of
14 shooting with a firearm.

16 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
