                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 24, 1976 (P.L.424, No.101), entitled,
     2     as amended, "An act providing for the payment of death
     3     benefits to the surviving spouse or children or parents of
     4     firefighters, ambulance service or rescue squad members, law
     5     enforcement officers or National Guard members killed in the
     6     performance of their duties," extending benefits to State or
     7     county probation or parole officers, investigators or
     8     supervisors.

     9     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    10  hereby enacts as follows:
    11     Section 1.  Section 2 of the act of June 24, 1976 (P.L.424,
    12  No.101), referred to as the Emergency and Law Enforcement
    13  Personnel Death Benefits Act, amended October 6, 2005 (P.L.319,
    14  No.59), is amended to read:
    15     Section 2.  "Firefighter, ambulance service or rescue squad
    16  member or law enforcement officer" means a firefighter; a member
    17  of a volunteer fire company; a member of an ambulance service or
    18  rescue squad; a peace officer as defined in 18 Pa.C.S. § 501


     1  (relating to definitions); a State or county probation or parole
     2  officer, investigator or supervisor; a public servant concerned
     3  in official detention as defined in 18 Pa.C.S. § 5121 (relating
     4  to escape); an officer or employee of a State correctional
     5  institution; guards or employees of county jails and prisons; or
     6  any other law enforcement officer of the Commonwealth of
     7  Pennsylvania or of any political subdivision thereof.
     8     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
