AN ACT
1 Amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, providing for the offense of unsafe
3 storage of a firearm.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Title 18 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
7 Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
8 § 6143. Unsafe storage of firearms.
9 (a) Offense defined.--Except as otherwise provided under
10 subsection (b), a person who stores a firearm in such an unsafe
11 or insecure manner that another person obtains the firearm and
12 uses the firearm to cause injury or death to a victim commits a
13 misdemeanor of the second degree.
14 (b) Negligent unsafe storage.--A person who negligently
15 stores a firearm in such an unsafe or insecure manner that
16 another person obtains the firearm and uses the firearm to cause
17 injury or death to a victim commits a misdemeanor of the second
18 degree.
1 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
