A RESOLUTION
1 Designating the week of April 18 through 24, 2004, as
2 "Pennsylvania One Call System Week" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, As excavators and contractors work to keep pace with
4 this Commonwealth's unprecedented economic development, it is
5 important to minimize damage to underground utility lines,
6 danger to workers, loss of utility service to our citizens and
7 environmental pollution; and
8 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania One Call System, Inc., a utility
9 service information center, is key to preventing injuries and
10 damage when digging; and
11 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania One Call System provides easy, one-
12 call notification about construction and excavation projects
13 that may endanger workers and jeopardize utility lines while
14 also promoting public safety, reducing underground utility
15 damages, minimizing utility service interruptions and protecting
16 the environment; and
17 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania One Call System began with only six
1 utility companies in western Pennsylvania and the City of
2 Pittsburgh and now serves more than 100,000 members and 2,450
3 local governments, authorities and utility companies; and
4 WHEREAS, Each year the Pennsylvania One Call System transmits
5 more than 5 million notifications to protect utility companies,
6 their employees and customers; therefore be it
7 RESOLVED, That the Senate encourage all residents of this
8 Commonwealth to call 1-800-242-1776 before digging in order to
9 avoid injury, protect our environment and prevent millions of
10 dollars in damages and remind diggers that three working days'
11 notice is the law; and be it further
12 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of April 18
13 through 24, 2004, as "Pennsylvania One Call System Week."
