        INTRODUCED BY PILEGGI, EARLL, STOUT, FERLO, COSTA, O'PAKE,
           STACK, KUKOVICH, ORIE, LOGAN, ROBBINS, WENGER, WAGNER,
           PICCOLA, MELLOW, ERICKSON, MUSTO, PUNT, LEMMOND, GREENLEAF,
           KASUNIC, TARTAGLIONE, GORDNER, CORMAN, KITCHEN, FUMO,
           ARMSTRONG, THOMPSON AND C. WILLIAMS, JANUARY 15, 2004

        REFERRED TO RULES AND EXECUTIVE NOMINATIONS, JANUARY 15, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the week of January 25 through January 31, 2004, as
     2     "Catholic Schools Week" in this Commonwealth.

     3     WHEREAS, Catholic schools in this Commonwealth are
     4  celebrating "Catholic Schools Week" from January 25 through
     5  January 31, 2004; and
     6     WHEREAS, The theme for this year is "Catholic Schools: Making
     7  a World of Difference"; and
     8     WHEREAS, Catholic elementary and secondary schools educate
     9  approximately 200,000 students annually and save State and local
    10  taxpayers more than $1 billion each year; and
    11     WHEREAS, Catholic schools instill in young people a strong
    12  foundation of values, self-esteem, self-confidence and
    13  leadership skills; and
    14     WHEREAS, Catholic schools, in providing young people a strong
    15  foundation of values and academic skills needed in becoming
    16  responsible citizens of this Commonwealth and nation, have a


     1  drop-out rate of less than 3% and a postgraduate higher
     2  education rate of 80%; therefore be it
     3     RESOLVED, That the Senate declare the week of January 25
     4  through January 31, 2004, as "Catholic Schools Week" in this
     5  Commonwealth and express congratulations and appreciation to
     6  Catholic elementary and secondary schools across this
     7  Commonwealth on the occasion of "Catholic Schools Week" in 2004.
