A RESOLUTION 1 Commending the Vocal Group Hall of Fame Foundation on the 2 occasion of its 6th annual induction ceremony. 3 WHEREAS, The Vocal Group Hall of Fame Foundation was founded 4 in 1997 in Mercer County; and 5 WHEREAS, The Vocal Group Hall of Fame Foundation was 6 established to unite the greatest vocal groups of the world, 7 honoring, preserving and promoting their music and memories for 8 future generations; and 9 WHEREAS, The Vocal Group Hall of Fame Foundation was designed 10 for the purpose of fulfilling the lifelong careers of the 11 inducted artist as inventors and creators of the music that 12 molded today's popular culture and passing it on for generations 13 to come; and 14 WHEREAS, The Vocal Group Hall of Fame Foundation celebrates 15 the many genres of the world's vocal music, including blues, 16 jazz, pop, rock, country, folk, gospel, big band, barbershop, 17 Sweet Adelines, doo wop and other lesser-known genres of vocal
1 music featuring vocal groups that perform music with harmony; 2 and 3 WHEREAS, The Vocal Group Hall of Fame is enshrined in a 4 museum which is open to the public year-round, free, with 5 donations accepted; and 6 WHEREAS, Musicologists, friends of the Vocal Group Hall of 7 Fame, past inductees and the general public nominate new 8 inductees each year, with no more than 12 vocal groups chosen; 9 and 10 WHEREAS, In 1998 the first induction ceremony was held where 11 the following artists were inducted: the Ames Brothers, the 12 Andrews Sisters, the Beach Boys, the Boswell Sisters, Crosby, 13 Stills & Nash, the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, the Golden 14 Gate Quartet, the Manhattan Transfer, the Mills Brothers, the 15 Original Drifters, the Platters, the Ravens, Sonny Til and the 16 Orioles and the Supremes; and 17 WHEREAS, In 1999 the following artists were inducted: the 18 Coasters, the Delta Rhythm Boys, the Four Seasons, the Four 19 Tops, Hank Ballard & the Midnighters, the Ink Spots, the Jackson 20 Five, Little Anthony & the Imperials, the Modernaires, the 21 Moonglows, Peter, Paul and Mary, the Revelers, the Spinners and 22 the Temptations; and 23 WHEREAS, In 2000 the following artists were inducted: the 24 Bangles, Dion & the Belmonts, the Dixie Hummingbirds, the 25 Flamingos, Ben E. King & the Drifters, the Kingston Trio, 26 Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers, the Mamas & the Papas, the 27 Skylarks, the Soul Stirrers and Three Dog Night; and 28 WHEREAS, In 2001 the following artists were inducted: the Bee 29 Gees, the Chordettes, the Eagles, the Four Aces, the Four 30 Freshmen, Gladys Knight & the Pips, the Lennon Sisters, the 20030S0119R1085 - 2 -
1 Lettermen, the McGuire Sisters, the Oak Ridge Boys, the Pied 2 Pipers, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, the Vogues and the 3 Weavers; and 4 WHEREAS, In 2002 the following artists were inducted: ABBA, 5 the Chantels, the Clovers, the 5th Dimension, the Five Keys, the 6 Four Nights, the Harptones, Jay & the Americans, the Marcels, 7 the Shirelles, the Skyliners and the Swan Silvertones; and 8 WHEREAS, On September 16, 2003, the following artists are 9 being inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame: the 10 Association, the Charioteers, the Commodores, Earth, Wind & 11 Fire, the Five Satins, the Four Lads, the Impressions, the Isley 12 Brothers, Danny & the Juniors, the Merry Macs, the Peerless 13 Quartet, Martha & the Vandellas and the Whispers; and 14 WHEREAS, Special concerts are being held on September 17 and 15 18, 2003, featuring Vocal Group Hall of Fame inductees and 16 former inductees; therefore be it 17 RESOLVED, That the Senate commend the Vocal Group Hall of 18 Fame Foundation on the occasion of its 6th annual induction 19 ceremony.
