A RESOLUTION 1 Requesting the Congress to reauthorize the Carl D. Perkins 2 Vocational and Technical Education Act. 3 WHEREAS, The Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical 4 Education Act is scheduled for reauthorization this year; and 5 WHEREAS, In fiscal year 2002, the Commonwealth of 6 Pennsylvania received nearly $52 million for its allocation 7 under the Perkins Act; and 8 WHEREAS, Perkins Act moneys were used to provide Pennsylvania 9 career and technical education students, including those with 10 special needs, with high-quality career and technical education 11 programs at the secondary, adult and postsecondary levels; and 12 WHEREAS, Under the current Perkins Act, Pennsylvania students 13 have demonstrated increased levels of technical skills 14 attainment and increased advanced academic course completion; 15 and
1 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania employers depend on career and 2 technical education graduates to meet their need for a skilled 3 work force; and 4 WHEREAS, The funding distribution formula in the current 5 Perkins Act provides equitable distribution of funds to rural, 6 suburban and urban schools; therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 urge the Congress of the United States to reauthorize the Carl 9 D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act, maintaining 10 its current focus on preparing career and technical education 11 students for the work force and continued education and 12 maintaining its method of funds allocation; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to 14 the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation.
