A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the week of May 11 through 17, 2003, as "National 2 Police Week" and May 15, 2003, as "National Police Officers' 3 Memorial Day." 4 WHEREAS, Approximately 600 police officers have made the 5 ultimate sacrifice since the beginning of law enforcement within 6 this Commonwealth by being killed in the line of duty; and 7 WHEREAS, National Police Officers' Memorial Day is held on 8 May 15 of each year; and 9 WHEREAS, Across the United States the week of May 11 through 10 17, 2003, is recognized as "National Police Week"; and 11 WHEREAS, The first National Police Officers' Memorial Day was 12 held on May 15, 1962, following a proclamation signed by 13 President John F. Kennedy, and has continued to be observed 14 annually in memory of those police officers who made the 15 ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; therefore be it 16 RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the memory of the hundreds of 17 police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty in this
