SENATE BILL

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, providing for removal of vegetation and for
     3     installation of warning devices at railroad crossings.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     7  Statutes is amended by adding sections to read:
     8  § 3713.1.  Railroads to remove vegetation at crossings.
     9     A railroad is responsible for removal of vegetation which may
    10  interfere with a driver's ability to see an oncoming train. All
    11  vegetation higher than three feet must be removed for a distance
    12  of at least:
    13         (1)  50 feet from each side of the road along both sides
    14     of the track to a depth of at least 15 feet from the nearest
    15     rail; or
    16         (2)  15 feet from the nearest rail along both sides of
    17     the road to a depth of at least 15 feet from the side of the
    18     road.

     1  § 3713.2.  Railroads to erect crossbars and flashing lights.
     2     A railroad shall erect either flashing lights or crossbars
     3  containing flashing lights at all vehicle crossings to warn
     4  automobile and truck drivers of an oncoming train.
     5     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
