        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           NOVEMBER 16, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Urging Major League Baseball to induct H. Douglas Harvey into
     2     baseball's Hall of Fame located in Cooperstown, New York.

     3     WHEREAS, Mr. Harvey worked 4,888 National League games in 31
     4  years before his retirement from Major League Baseball in 1992;
     5  and
     6     WHEREAS, Mr. Harvey called an impressive eight league
     7  championships, six All-Star Games and five World Series; and
     8     WHEREAS, In the 100-plus-year history of Major League
     9  Baseball, Mr. Harvey is the only umpire to go from Class C to
    10  the minors to the majors in less than five years; and
    11     WHEREAS, Mr. Harvey has been featured in many publications
    12  for his contributions to spit tobacco education and prevention;
    13  and
    14     WHEREAS, In 2001 Mr. Harvey was given the Tuttle Award for
    15  his work as a National Spit Tobacco Education Program spokesman
    16  reaching countless young people through presentations at
    17  schools, ballparks, meetings and events; therefore be it


     1     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge Major League
     2  Baseball to induct H. Douglas Harvey into baseball's Hall of
     3  Fame located in Cooperstown, New York; and be it further
     4     RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk send a copy of this resolution
     5  to Allan H. Selig, Commissioner, The Office of the Commissioner,
     6  245 Park Avenue, 31st Floor, New York, NY 10167.
