        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JULY 1, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Welcoming the 35th annual Citgo Bassmaster Classic to Pittsburgh
     2     from July 29 through 31, 2005.

     3     WHEREAS, For most of its 34 years, the Bassmaster Classic has
     4  been held in southern cities and was held in New Orleans in 2003
     5  and will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina this year; and
     6     WHEREAS, Through the efforts of a local Pittsburgh committee,
     7  the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, the Greater
     8  Pittsburgh Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Governor's
     9  Office, Allegheny County, the Pittsburgh Mayor's Office, State
    10  and local political leaders and others, the City of Pittsburgh
    11  has been selected as the site of the 35th annual Citgo
    12  Bassmaster Classic to be held July 29 through 31, 2005; and
    13     WHEREAS, Pittsburgh thereby becomes the first city in


     1  Pennsylvania to host this world-class fishing tournament; and
     2     WHEREAS, Fishing for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass by
     3  professional and amateur fishermen on the waters of the
     4  Allegheny, Monongahela, Ohio, Beaver or Youghiogheny rivers
     5  surrounding Pittsburgh will attract crowds estimated at 70,000
     6  and revenues approximating $20 million; and
     7     WHEREAS, The three-day event is being televised nationally by
     8  ESPN and is featuring events at the Mellon Arena and the David
     9  L. Lawrence Convention Center, including the very popular daily
    10  weigh-ins in Mellon Arena; and
    11     WHEREAS, The event will advertise the quality of the waters
    12  and fishing in the Pittsburgh area and establish the eminence of
    13  its sizeable bass population; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives welcome the 35th
    15  annual Citgo Bassmaster Classic to Pittsburgh from July 29
    16  through 31, 2005.
