        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JUNE 14, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of June 6 through 13, 2004, as "Performing
     2     Arts Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Experts from the performing arts, media, government,
     4  academia and other disciplines from around the country are
     5  gathering in Pittsburgh from June 8 through 13, 2004, to
     6  participate in the cross-disciplinary programming of the first
     7  National Performing Arts Convention; and
     8     WHEREAS, The convention is expected to draw up to 5,000
     9  artists, arts administrators, trustees, volunteers and others to
    10  Pittsburgh; and
    11     WHEREAS, A primary goal in gathering leaders from the
    12  national nonprofit performing arts for this first-ever
    13  convention is to address issues facing the American arts
    14  community in ways that cross discipline boundaries and harness
    15  the collective energy and expertise of the entire sector,
    16  according to Marc A. Scorca, president and CEO of OPERA America
    17  and chairman of the Convention's National Planning Committee;


     1  therefore be it
     2     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
     3  week of June 6 through 13, 2004, as "Performing Arts Week" in
     4  Pennsylvania.
