INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, APRIL 12, 2004
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating May 1, 2004, as "Loyalty Day" in Pennsylvania. 2 WHEREAS, The Department of Pennsylvania, Veterans of Foreign 3 Wars, is conducting its annual "Loyalty Day" program on the 4 grounds of the State Capitol on May 1, 2004; and 5 WHEREAS, In 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into 6 law Public Law 85-529, which designates May 1 of each year as 7 "Loyalty Day"; and 8 WHEREAS, "Loyalty Day" is set aside as a special day for 9 reaffirming loyalty to the United States and recognizing
1 American freedom; and 2 WHEREAS, The President of the United States annually issues a 3 proclamation calling on officials to proudly display the flag of 4 the United States on all Government buildings on this special 5 day; and 6 WHEREAS, Citizens and elected officials are encouraged to 7 observe "Loyalty Day" in schools and other appropriate places; 8 and 9 WHEREAS, This year, after the most horrific act of war on 10 American soil, it is fitting that the citizens of this 11 Commonwealth pause on "Loyalty Day" to reflect on the privileges 12 of freedom, democracy and unmatched opportunity we enjoy in the 13 United States; therefore be it 14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 1, 15 2004, as "Loyalty Day" in Pennsylvania, proudly joining the 16 Department of Pennsylvania, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in its 17 observance and commending the department for its continued 18 service to our nation and this Commonwealth; and be it further 19 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to VFW 20 State Commander Charles Prince on May 1, 2004, at the "Loyalty 21 Day" program conducted by the Department of Pennsylvania, 22 Veterans of Foreign Wars, on the grounds of the State Capitol.
