                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing February 6, 2004, as "Ronald Reagan Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble
     4  background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and
     5  advancing the public good as an entertainer, union leader,
     6  corporate spokesman, Governor of California and President of the
     7  United States; and
     8     WHEREAS, President Reagan served with honor and distinction
     9  for two terms as the 40th President of the United States of
    10  America; and
    11     WHEREAS, In the 1984 presidential election, Ronald Reagan
    12  earned the confidence of three-fifths of the electorate and was


     1  victorious in 49 of the 50 states in the general election, a
     2  record unsurpassed in the history of American presidential
     3  elections; and
     4     WHEREAS, In 1981, at the time of his first inaugural,
     5  President Reagan inherited a disillusioned nation shackled by
     6  rampant inflation and high unemployment; and
     7     WHEREAS, President Reagan worked in a bipartisan manner to
     8  enact his bold agenda of restoring accountability and common
     9  sense to the Federal Government, which led to unprecedented
    10  economic expansion and opportunity for millions of Americans;
    11  and
    12     WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to an active social
    13  policy agenda for the nation's children helped lower crime and
    14  drug use in our neighborhoods; and
    15     WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to this nation's Armed
    16  Forces contributed to the restoration of pride in America, her
    17  values and those cherished by the free world and prepared the
    18  United States Armed Forces to meet 21st century challenges; and
    19     WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace through
    20  strength" led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise
    21  of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for
    22  millions of people; and
    23     WHEREAS, On February 6, 2004, Ronald Reagan reaches 93 years
    24  of age; therefore be it
    25     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
    26  February 6, 2004, as "Ronald Reagan Day" in Pennsylvania.
