A RESOLUTION 1 Encouraging the Philadelphia City Council to name the sports 2 complex at Broad Street and Pattison Avenue the "Veterans 3 Sports Complex" in honor of those who serve our nation around 4 the world as well as those who have served. 5 WHEREAS, The Philadelphia City Council had 30 years ago named 6 Veterans Stadium in order to honor veterans of the Delaware 7 Valley and this Commonwealth; and 8 WHEREAS, With the impending closing of Veterans Stadium and 9 sales of the naming rights to other individual stadiums, this 10 tribute to veterans of our armed forces may soon be lost to 11 current and future generations; and 12 WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia will now have a world-class 13 sports complex with no name at Broad Street and Pattison 14 Avenues; and 15 WHEREAS, All major sports, both collegiate and professional, 16 will be played at the sports complex; and
1 WHEREAS, Naming the sports complex "Veterans Sports Complex" 2 will honor those who serve and those who have served and allow 3 the individual stadiums within the complex to sell their naming 4 rights; therefore be it 5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives strongly 6 encourage the Philadelphia City Council to continue the 7 commemoration of veterans through naming the sports complex the 8 "Veterans Sports Complex"; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be sent to Mayor 10 John F. Street, each member of the Philadelphia City Council and 11 the Pennsylvania State Senators and State Representatives from 12 the five-county Philadelphia region, urging them to name the 13 sports complex the "Veterans Sports Complex" in honor of our 14 veterans.
