        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JUNE 26, 2003

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing June 27, 2003, as "National HIV Testing Day."

     2     WHEREAS, Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disease impacts
     3  all Pennsylvanians; and
     4     WHEREAS, An estimated quarter of a million Americans are
     5  infected with HIV but do not know it; and
     6     WHEREAS, Many people learn that they have HIV quite late in
     7  their infection; and
     8     WHEREAS, New treatments are most effective when used early;
     9  and
    10     WHEREAS, In 1995 the National Association of People with AIDS
    11  (NAPWA) launched "National HIV Testing Day" on June 27 as a way
    12  to reach millions of people at risk with a simple message: "Take
    13  the Test, Take Control"; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize June


     1  27, 2003, as "National HIV Testing Day" and encourage all
     2  Pennsylvanians to learn more about HIV disease and HIV testing;
     3  and be it further
     4     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the work
     5  of grass-roots organizations throughout this Commonwealth which
     6  provide critical HIV counseling and testing services in their
     7  communities.
