INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MARCH 25, 2003
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the month of May 2003 as "Beef Month" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Agriculture is the number one industry in this 4 Commonwealth, annually contributing more than 800,000 jobs and 5 $44 billion to the State economy; and 6 WHEREAS, Lancaster County is the top cattle-producing county 7 in this Commonwealth, with 239,000 head of cattle and calves; 8 and 9 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania ranks number one in the nation in 10 farmland preservation; and 11 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania ranks 20th in the nation for total 12 cattle inventories; and 13 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the sixth most populous state in the
1 nation, providing an excellent and diverse marketplace for beef 2 and veal to consumers; and 3 WHEREAS, Cattle inventory accounts for 94.8% of the total 4 value of livestock in this Commonwealth; therefore be it 5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the 6 month of May 2003 as "Beef Month" in Pennsylvania.
