        AS REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE ON VETERANS AFFAIRS AND EMERGENCY
           PREPAREDNESS, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, AS AMENDED,
           MARCH 15, 2004

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 51 (Military Affairs) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, further defining "soldier."

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5     Section 1.  Section 7101 of Title 51 of the Pennsylvania
     6  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     7  § 7101.  Soldier defined.
     8     As used in this chapter, "soldier" means a person who served
     9  OR HEREAFTER SERVES in the armed forces of the United States, or  <--
    10  in any women's organization officially connected therewith,
    11  during any war or armed conflict in which the United States
    12  engaged[, or] AND WHO WAS RELEASED FROM ACTIVE DUTY UNDER         <--
    13  HONORABLE CONDITIONS, OTHER THAN FROM PERIODS OF ACTIVE DUTY FOR


     1  TRAINING, OR WITH AN HONORABLE DISCHARGE FROM SUCH SERVICE, OR A
     2  PERSON who so served or hereafter serves in the armed forces of
     3  the United States, or in any women's organization officially
     4  connected therewith, since July 27, 1953, including service in
     5  Vietnam, and who has an honorable discharge from such service.
     6  The term includes those who served honorably in an active duty    <--
     7  status for a period of not less than six months regardless of
     8  fulfillment of their initial contractual enlistment. QUALIFYING   <--
     9  PERIODS OF SERVICE DURING A WAR OR ARMED CONFLICT, FOR PURPOSES
    10  OF THIS PROVISION, WILL BE DESIGNATED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF
    11  MILITARY AND VETERANS AFFAIRS.
    12     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
